Minutes from FTVA Board Meeting 26 Jan 2024
The FTVA board convened at the LAFB Gateway club on 26 Jan 2024 and via Zoom.Participants included:
Bill Brockmiller (President), Evan Smith (Secretary), Andy Smith (*new Treasurer), Ken Williams (Social Chair), Dan Martin (Historian), Roy Burnett (Member Support), Ted Colquhoun, John Tollison, Lee Anthony, A.J. Harrison
- Financials were provided by Ken Maynard. Andy Smith has agreed to assume Treasure duties from Ken Maynard. The appointment will be fully voted on at this year’s Fall General Membership Meeting. Will need to update account info at SSFCU.
- Old Business:
- Ken Williams & Lee Anthony are looking to support via Vigilant Partners.
- Maj Gen Hensley wants to join the FTVA (link provided by Mr. Ken Williams to the Vice’s assistant.
- A link to banquet pictures is coming, POC is/was Dennis Buxton.
- A link to the Vietnam commemoration ground will be provided.
- Our Reunion golf POC mentioned that Golf Club of Texas will for us to raise our rate to $60 per person.
- Dan Martin reiterated the idea of getting high-resolution photos from PA of the HoH plaques in the BALA in the event we want to make blow-ups to display in the Club should that be the location of this year’s HoH ceremony in addition to the Banquet. Evan and Ted took for action to discuss with PA and confirm what the Graphics section may or may not be able to assist with…
- New Business:
- The 2024 Spring Social, tentatively scheduled for 16 March; there is a possibility of a chance with of getting the new command chief, CMSgt Hopkins – Ted volunteered to broach with the front the office. A.J. reminded of the need to consider those who wish to attend but will need access to the base; need to produce something for them to provide to the Visitor’s Center in order to get a pass.
- The 2024 annual reunion is tentatively scheduled for 17-19 Oct.
- The president appoints “Bam” Rolirad as the new director for Vigilant Partners (previous director Mark Hess); Board agreed to see if Ron Haygood can reach out to him.
- A.J.’s Director Emeritus status was confirmed by a motion and vote. e. There was a general discussion of AFCEA’s status vs. FTVA’s.
- Ted raised the idea of establishing a Memorial Scholarship. Ken W. noted that years ago this had been looked into with support from several Vigilant Partners, but the cost to initiate an enduring scholarship was prohibitive. Most agreed that there is merit in the idea, but details will need to be looked at. Lee volunteered to be a part of any exploratory committee and advised that any scholarship has to be tied to the unincorporated 501-3C side of FTVA aka, Memorial Fund, for donors to receive a tax credit.
- Discussed the Membership Directory and need for more information to include addresses. Roy will work-up a solicitation requesting the info be provided. h. Brock provided an update on the Chubb Insurance policy. The cost went down from $476 originally for two years by around $200; expects an increase this time around when it’s due for renewal on 11 May.
- 1 Dec 23 deadline to RiT inputs, a picture of the new president is required.
- Next meeting; annual luncheon on 10 Feb.
- The board requested that I post the constitution and by-laws on the site.
- The next Board Meeting is scheduled for 23 Feb 24 at the Gateway Club.
- Meeting adjourned at 1339L.
