Minutes from FTVA Board Meeting 18 Nov 2022

  1. The FTVA board convened at the LAFB Gateway club on 18 Nov 2022.

Participants included:

Ted Colquhoun (President), Bill Brockmiller (VP), Ken Maynard (Treasurer), Evan Smith (Secretary), Ken Williams (Social Chair), Dan Martin (Historian), Pepito Figueroa (Remembrance), AJ Harrison (HoH), Dennis Buxton (RIT), and Roy Burnett (Admin)

  1. Old/New Business:
    1. Much discussion about the current state of the Website, which is currently in-op.  The Service contract with Cyber Texas lapsed and they apparently do not have the current expertise to resume the service.  Roy explained that we need someone with WordPress experience and both Pep and Ken Maynard said they might know someone who could look at it.  All agreed it needs to be a priority to get it restored and updated even if it means initiating a contract with a company that can do the work.  Roy has it for action, updates to follow.  One action is to send an e-mail to the membership explaining that the website is having issues and is under construction.
    2. Dennis discussed the RIT and the need to get it to the masses since the website is broken at present.  Several options were discussed and DropBox was suggested as an alternative that may be viable,  if it pans out then the RIT could be put in DropBox and Roy could send an e-mail to the membership with a link and access instructions…trails are underway and Roy has this for Action.
    3. Briefly discussed the closeout of the FY22 FTVA Reunion events and recognition possibilities for key NAF staff contributors.  Ted has the lead on this.  Ted noted several changes that Lt Gen Kennedy wans to make for next year and is in coord with Tim Duncan in Protocol.
    4. Brock advised that the Board’s insurance policy was coming up for renewal and that he was currently researching cost for several companies…update to follow at a later meeting
    5. Dan noted that he was finalizing the History report and estimated it take 10 days or so, more to follow.
    6. Ken Williams provided a Social update noting that the Alamo Chapter met at the Alamo Café, but that there’d be no meeting in December with the next meeting on the 3d Thursday in January (19th).  He said Ms. Dottie thinks Lt Gen Kennedy would be open to attending and he’ll work with her to look at the schedule…open to changing the dates if the Gen wishes to participate and can’t make the 19th.  He also will arrange the next Board meeting at the Gateway Club with the Manager for 16 Dec.  Lastly, he discussed the Spring Social can resume this year, just have to de-conflict the dates with Fiesta and that the club could be a venue for the Social if interested.
    7. It was noted that Gen Bishop would like to hear from other CC’s about their support for FTVA to reinforce to the current leadership the significance of the history and heritage of the Command.  Fears much is being lost with the new 16 AF construct and mothballing of USAFSS/ESC/AFIC/AIA/AFISRA/25 AF history.
    8. AJ noted he’d received his Vietnam Veteran’s pin from the AFA and suggested this is something we can do for our Vietnam era vets.  Discussion followed about how to get the word out and a suggestion was made to put a callout in the RIT for members to self-identify if they were Vietnam Era members…no specific action was assigned, but recommend Ted include that in the President’s Corner with instruction on who to contact and what info to provide (Name/Dates of Service/Mailing Address, etc.)
  1. The next Board Meeting is scheduled for 16 Dec at 1300 at the Gateway Club.  Recommending all come early for lunch prior…
