FREEDOM THROUGH VIGILANCE ASSOCIATION
P.O. Box 691616
San Antonio, Texas 78269-1616
1. 1. September 20, 2019 FTVA Board of Directors’ Meeting: After ascertaining a quorum, President Ted Colquhoun called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. in the Security Hill; Building 2000 cafeteria.
2. ATTENDANCE:
Ted Colquhoun – President | Evan Smith – Vice President |
Phred Sevening – Secretary | Ken Maynard |
Dennis Buxton | Ken Williams |
Dan Martin |
3. MINUTES: The August 2019 Meeting Minutes were read and approved.
4. TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer Lee Anthony was unable to attend, so he provided the report to Vice President Evan Smith who went over the report for the audience. It will be archived for audit/review.
5. We started the meeting with a lengthy discussion led by Ms Haley Flanagan, the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Private Organizations Coordinator. She came to learn more about who we are, what we do, and how she can help us succeed. She provided all the guiding documentation regarding authorized on-base private organizations. Additional scrutiny of the documentation is required before we decide to pursue further.
6. OLD BUSINESS:
- FTVA Membership Drive: On hold pending our decision to become an approved on-base Private Organization as the rules for such an entity would dictate how we can proceed.
- FTVA Facebook Activity: Everyone is relatively happy with the recent uptick in activity on our FB page. Closed.
- PO Box transition: Decision recently made to stick with SSFCU. Closed.
- Remain In Touch online newsletter: All the bugs seem to be getting worked out as we have fewer issues with each issue. Closed.
- Status of TSgt Ernie Parrish plaque in BALA: Tabled until after the NAF merger.
- Potential for Memorial Plaque in BALA for Maj Ransom: Tabled until after the NAF merger.
7. NEW BUSINESS:
- FTVA Charter Update: A line in our current charter was recently discovered that states current board members can not be active employees of the NAF. Not sure how such language could have ended up in our charter, but we need to correct it. Correction will be made in conjunction with NAF merger and presented in upcoming meeting for approval vote and implementation.
- Codifying Memorialization Process: During short discussion on Maj Ransom (see item 6f above), motion was made seconded, and approved to form a small committee to establish a formal process for the FTVA to follow to ensure all future considerations are addressed in a consistent and standardized manner.
- Larson Awards Way-Ahead: Under the new NAF construct, we will have most AFSCs from the Air Force assigned to the new NAF. The future Larson Award competitions may have to be modified to ensure everything meets the spirit and intent of awarding the “best of the best” in each AFSC in the NAF.
- New Nominating Committee Chair: Tabled discussion on this topic until next meeting.
8. CORRESPONDENCE: Ken Williams shared highlights from the meeting minutes of the most recent Alamo Chapter.
9. AROUND THE ROOM:
- Dan Martin: I will have the current version of our history completed and ready to post and want to ensure I correctly follow the process. It will go out to the BOD for QC and approval, and then to Roy Burnett to post.
- Dennis Buxton:
- So far there are only 24 teams signed up for the golf tournament, and deadline for signing up is rapidly approaching. Dennis is confident the golf course can accommodate last-minute sign-ons.
- Remain in Touch Newsletter: Thanks for all the help in getting the most recently edition finalized and posted on line, most importantly with the excellent Quality Control effort.
- For anyone who submits pictures for the Newsletter, please be sure to identify everyone in the picture.
- Ted Colquhoun: As I get ready to pass the reigns over to Evan Smith I just want to say thanks for the great opportunity to lead the FTVA over the past two years and a sincere thank you for all the support.
10. There being no further business, motion was made, seconded, and approved to adjourn at 1456. The next FTVA BOD meeting will be October 2, 2019 on Security Hill, Larson Hall (building 2007) in the Commander’s Conference Room to present the Anniversary Week activities status to the NAF Commander Lt Gen-Select Haugh.
