While stationed at Kadena, Okinawa, back in the mid 80s, a crew returned from a phoon evac to the PI. We got back to learn that the squadron commander had visited the barracks (building 144) for a safety check only to come up on one of the dormitory base phone books (normally bolted to the wall below the phone) was on fire – still had yellow flames coming from it. The commander was not amused! Hard to believe that the folks that remained on Kadena got in more trouble than the crew that evacuated to Clark AB.
